WOMEN’S SELF DEFENSE IMPORTANT: Most people possibly carry pepper spray or some sort of defense like so. Unless you are walking and ready to shoot it takes at least three seconds or more (depending upon how fast the individual is) to get your weapon. An assault happens in less than a second rather if they are waiting for you behind your car, in a dark area or garage, in the bushes at night, around the corner of a building, etc. Now if grabbed out of the middle of no where, then your weapon is useless. The fastest defense is our hands themselves. From here you can use defense against holds, grabs, etc. Any form of self defense is useful to an individual. However I always believe that there are good ways and better ways. I would prefer for a student inquiring about defense to take a full course of the system of what we offer, but there are instances where some do not wish to do so and in some realistic cases there are some women that need to use what they know right now. In these cases a women’s defense course has been established for these situations that is a class suited for women only (no men allowed for the sake of the knowledge in this course not being seen by men for safety precautions) so they can learn easy to use defense without memorizing belt for belt. This is the only course that is not open to every individual. Women can feel free to participate and children 12 and under. Several questions have been brought up in the past about what the difference is when learning women’s defense and the full kung fu course offered. To explain this easier think of a movie review and how you know about the movie and learn some of the character’s names and the plot is clear. The movie review would be like the women's defense course. Now picture watching the movie and seeing all the tiny little details that go along with this movie and this would resemble the full training course of Kenpo Kung Fu. In our women’s self defense course you learn and experience by practice just like in every class the practicality of the methods applied. Instead of learning several methods against one attack, you will be taught only a couple that work the best and that uses the least amount strength. You will learn defense against striking attacks and grabbing attacks. You will also learn defense against holds on the ground from mounted positions, guards, etc. You will learn to use methods of chin na (see chin na section) to control an opponent as well as submissions on the ground. You will learn defense against knife attacks and getting out of holds with a knife to the throat for example. You will learn defense against a club attack and holds as well as learning to defend against being held at gun point. Something also taught in our women’s defense course not normally taught at most schools is defending multiple assailants (see multiple man defense area for more detailed information). In women’s defense we start with two then four and progress up to six attackers. In the full kung fu training course we start with two, then four, then eight to ten, and progress to however many bodies (sometimes 12 or even up to 20) we have in the Kwoon (school). Something very important in this is the vital areas of the body that causes most damage. The most important part of women’s defense training is safety measures and building the mind for awareness and danger and to observe the situation. Safety and prevention is the first step to self defense. Mental training is also shared with the student to develop better confidence and thought. Keep in mind that in women’s self defense, you learn how to get out of a situation and cause enough damage to get the proper authorities even though some of the methods can be fatal. NOTE: WOMEN’S SELF DEFENSE IS FOR SELF DEFENSE ONLY. TO DEFEND IS TO GET OUT OF A SITUATION SAFELY AND GET THE PROPER AUTHORITIES. Return to Kenpo Kung Fu Homepage
