Misplacing the Bone (tsuoh guu)

Again, this is another self-explanatory method. Misplacing the bone occurs where you lock up one or more of the limbs to a painful unnatural position. Very common method of chin na because it can easily subdue an attacker without really gauging into striking or seriously hurting them.

Other than chin na holds, arm breaks and leg breaks are also misplacing the bone because the bone it is misplaced.

Methods of misplacing the bone are quite simple but at the same time they are complex because of the principles and fine tuned details behind them that make the hold effective.

One method is finger chin na or “small circle.” This is the weakest limbs of the body and very painful but hard to get a hold while striking if not done from a grab attack. Another is wrist chin na or “small circle.” These are the more popular holds because the wrist is one of the easier parts to grasp and it is still much weaker than the elbow or shoulder which takes us to elbow chin na or “medium circle.” This locks up the elbow and are relative easy to shift into especially when close range. It is possible to sometimes use finger or wrist while doing elbow, neck, or shoulder chin na for greater control.

Shoulder chin na or “large circle” chin na is harder to move into unless you are close. There are not as many locks in shoulder as there are with elbow and especially wrist but when on the ground it comes in quite handy.

Neck chin na is very brief but the most deadly and requires little effort.

Waist chin na is the most difficult because they have to be in a very vulnerable position to perform.

The most popular method however is the old school “back breaker” as some refer to it as. Leg chin na is very useful in ground fighting but even more effective using it to control their leg with your leg while striking, knocking the opponent off balance.
