Kwan Dao

The Kwan Dao/Tai Hum Dao” is also known as “Yanyue Dao” meaning “reclining moon blade.”

Kwan Dao is a Tai Hum Dao but it was Emperor Gwan Gong's (or also known as Guan Yu) weapon with a blue dragon crescent blade. General Guan Yu was a famous general and was one of the three brothers during the Han Dynasty. Other brothers were Zhang Fei and Liu Bei. Due to his massive size he could wield the traditionally heavy weapon weighing over 100 pounds.

Guan Yu was said to be the inventor of the weapon and was quite rare to be seen this early in history. His weapon estimated 49kgs. The weapon’s first records were illustrated during the Tang or Song Dynasties. However, much kung fu history was verbal and not written to keep secrecy among family arts.

The Kwan Dao was used on a mounted horse for charging and quite impossible to block this heavy weapon. Today most Kwan Dao weapons are only 5-20 pounds and are very easy to use for the average person unlike the traditional heavy weapons.
