Butterfly Swords

Butterfly Swords are double weapons. This is a short sword with a wide blade and a hand guard. Used for close-quarter fighting and good for blocking with one and hacking with the other simultaneously.

These weapons are most popular in Win Tsun or Wing Chun, Hung Gar/Ga or Hung Kuen which are primarily southern arts.

Wong Fei Hung is of the most popular Hung Gar masters in history, however it was named after Hung Hei Gun. Gun’s teacher was Jee Sin who was a master at the southern Shaolin Temple. At the temple the blanket term for martial arts was Ch’uan Fa meaning “way of the fist” in which where Kenpo was originated from. The term Kenpo is more popular due to its migration.

Of course the Chinese name for Kenpo is Ch’uan Fa. Ch’uan Fa is of the first elected martial arts in history. This is why a practitioner of Chinese Kenpo will be knowledgeable about various arts because Kenpo influenced several arts.
